Microgravity

Separation without gravity, for spacecraft and habitats

Concept (2022)

The concept is described. No physical test. The level records the highest step reached, with the year.

The problem

Almost every separator built on Earth uses gravity for the last step. Once the liquid leaves the gas stream, gravity collects it. In weightlessness that step does not work.

What the Lynx separator does

The Lynx Microgravity separator both captures and collects the liquid without relying on gravity.

The rotation does the work that gravity does on Earth, which is the same principle the other applications already use.

Long missions and habitats off Earth need liquid separated from gas continuously, in life support and in process systems.

What happened, and when

  • InnSep described the design on 15 March 2022.
  • The company stated that the design was ready for the next verification steps, and that it was reaching out to space organisations for collaboration.
  • The archive describes no physical test of this design.
