Dry gas seals
Protection of contact-free gas seals in offshore turbine compressors
Sold or licensed, and in use with another company. The level records the highest step reached, with the year.
The problem
Dry gas seals keep offshore turbine compressors sealed without touching the shaft. Liquid in the seal gas damages them, and a damaged seal stops the compressor.
What the Lynx separator does
The Lynx separator removes the liquid from the seal gas before it reaches the seal.
The housing is hermetically sealed, with no shaft passing through it. Nothing leaks out along a shaft, and the unit needs little maintenance.
The design fits any brand of dry gas seal system, so it is not tied to one manufacturer.
Who is already in
EagleBurgmann
Exclusive licensee from 2015
EagleBurgmann is one of the global suppliers of industrial sealing technology. In 2015 the company described itself as 125 years old, with operations in 77 countries. EagleBurgmann Norway manufactured and tested the unit.
What happened, and when
- EagleBurgmann signed an exclusive licence for the Lynx separator for dry gas seal protection on 26 November 2015.
- EagleBurgmann Norway manufactured the unit and pressure tested it to 330 bar. It was deployed in September 2016.
- The project passed the Technology Readiness Levels used on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in less than one year. The normal path is 10 to 15 years.
- Design parameters were set from the data collected during the high pressure testing at Rotvoll in Trondheim.
